Shun Hikari Wins Knife of The Year
Shun Hikari is the newest series of Chef Knives in the Shun Collection. Recently winning the award for Kitchen Knife of the year for 2016. The Shun Hikari is beautifully designed and well crafted, just like every one of their knives. The term Hikari is Japanese for “Sunlight” or “light” with is accurate for this Shun knife. Unlike other Shun Cutlery, the Hikari has a much lighter handle and a unique blade design. Now, to get into the details.
Breaking down the Shun Hikari
The Shun Hikari Chef Knife has a dual core blade with 71 alternating layers of VG10 and VG2 carbon and chromium stainless steel. The Damascus Steel has a 16 degree sharp edge and the more unique “angry hornet nest pattern”. Referred to as the Shun Blond Handle, the Hikari has a birch pakkawood handle with red accents highlights and satin gloss finish. This Knife Is one of a kind, so how much is it?
To Be Determined
Shun Cutlery has not released a price point for the new Shun Hikari. In fact, the Knife wont even be available until 2017. Although the knife is an award wining knife, hopefully Shun will release the knife in early 2017. The other concern is whether Shun Cutlery will make the Hikari a limited edition blade. If this is the case, than limited supplies will be available and they will sell quickly. We will keep updates throughout the year as more information is released by the Shun cutlery company. Let us know what you think of the sunlight knife or Shunshine knife.
Shun Continues To Win Kitchen Knife Awards
In 1982 the “Blade Magazine” was established, considered one of the oldest running knife magazine. When shun won the 2016 Kitchen Knife of the Year award, it was selected to be presented in the newest edition of the magazine. The Shun Hikari impressed the judges and won the award with the beauty and innovating design, but this wasn’t the first time Shun won a Kitchen Knife of the Year award. In fact Shun has won several awards with different knives. Just like Shun did in Atlanta Georgia this year with the Shun Hikari, Shun has been winning awards with amazing knives built for sharpness and durability.
